We are “Neurodivergent-affirming” organisation

Pelorus OT is a reputable provider of occupational therapy services, comprising assistive technology assessments, equipment prescriptions, and training. Our skilled occupational therapists are dedicated to supporting individuals of varying ages and abilities to surpass obstacles and accomplish their objectives with the aid of assistive technology. We recognize that every person has distinct requirements, and hence, we closely collaborate with our clients to ascertain the most fitting solutions for their specific circumstances.

Empowering Independence and Safety through Assistive Technology Assessments

Assistive technology assessments are conducted by occupational therapists to aid people of different ages and abilities in finding the most fitting equipment and devices that will enable them to perform their daily activities with ease, safety, and independence.

These assessments are comprehensive and require the occupational therapist to thoroughly evaluate the client's physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities, as well as their current living or working environment, and personal goals and preferences for assistive technology.

We conduct a thorough assessment that encompasses the following aspects:

  • Reviewing the client's medical history to determine any diagnoses or conditions that may affect their mobility or daily living activities.
  • Evaluating the client's present abilities and challenges, which include functional limitations and any pain or discomfort they may be experiencing.
  • Conducting an assessment of the client's home or work environment to identify any potential barriers or hazards.
  • Engaging in a discussion with the client to understand their objectives and preferences for assistive technology.

The recommended solutions may comprise a range of equipment and devices, such as:

  • Mobility aids, which may include wheelchairs, canes, and walkers.
  • Adaptive equipment, such as shower chairs, grab bars and specialized eating utensils.
  • Communication devices, including speech-generating devices or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
  • Electronic or computer devices like voice recognition software, keyboards, or mice.
